From Corner To Center: Portland’s Day Labor Art Show

7:00pm Thursday April 2nd, 2009
@ The Portland Day Labor Hire Site
240 NE MLK Jr. Blvd. Portland, OR 97232
This month Portland’s Day Labor Art Show will explore the traditions of Palm Sunday, a Christian celebration that marks the end of Lent and the beginning of Holy week. During this time of the year it is tradition to collect blessed palm leaves to weave elaborate crosses, baskets, or flowers using a few palm strips. Join us as we transform the day labor hire site into a community exhibition space. The show will include a live demonstration of traditional weaving with Palm leaves specially gathered for Palm Sunday. We’ll also display new photographs, drawings and paintings made by the workers who come to the hire site. Come enjoy art, music, dancing, and a cup of Mexican hot chocolate.
