Voz Workers’ Rights Education Project (“Voz”) is a worker-led organization that empowers diverse day laborers and immigrants to improve their working condition and protect civil rights through leadership development, organizing, education and economic opportunity.

POSITION: Grassroots Engagement Coordinator

SUPERVISOR: Development Director

HOURS: 40 hours a week

BENEFITS: Health/Dental, Paid Sick Time, Vacation, Family Leave

SALARY: $17.50/hour

Summary of the Position:
The Grassroots Engagement Coordinator will engage Voz’ broad grassroots base of volunteers and donors to strengthen Voz’ capacity and sustainability. This position will spend half-time mobilizing grassroots fundraising strategies and half-time coordinating volunteers.

Main Responsibilities:


Part time: Grassroots Fundraising

  1. Develop and implement strategy for better engaging Voz’ donor base
    1. Mobilize increased support from monthly and major donors
    2. Mobilize support from business partners (sponsorships and donations)
    3. Organize End of Year giving campaign
  2. Organize fundraising events
    1. Organize Voz’ Annual Dinner
    2. Organize house parties hosted by Voz allies
    3. Organize other small events for fundraising purposes
  3. Maintain updated donor database
    1. Use database to analyze data and hone donor engagement strategy
    2. Ensure all donors are thanked, and maintain consistent relationships
  4. Increase organizational engagement in fundraising activities
    1. Engage day laborers in fundraising
    2. Engage volunteers in fundraising
  5. Communications
    1. Send out regular email blasts to Voz ally community
    2. Develop more targeted communications
  6. Work with day laborers to develop and sell swag/incentives (shirts, stickers, pins)


Part time: Volunteer coordinating

  1. Recruit volunteers and interns
    1. Develop and implement outreach strategy
    2. Interview and screen new volunteers
    3. Assist Deputy Director in recruiting, interviewing, and screening new interns
  2. Coordinate volunteers and interns
    1. Develop and organize volunteer orientations
    2. Coordinate with program directors to match staff and volunteers to adapt to new needs and special events
    3. Develop trainings for specific volunteer positions
    4. Develop and implement DayOfSerVOZ schedule
    5. Manage volunteer administration, including tracking hours, maintaining accurate calendar, and updating contact information
  3. Retain volunteers and interns
    1. Develop and implement strategy for volunteer appreciation
    2. Improve and update volunteer handbook, including developing policies to address ongoing issues
  4. Develop day laborer volunteer program
    1. Work with Worker Center staff to develop a system for incentivizing, training, and tracking day laborer volunteering




  • Grassroots fundraising experience
  • Volunteer coordination experience
  • Fluency in Spanish required
  • Experience working with vulnerable low-income and immigrant populations
  • Knowledge of and commitment to immigrants’ rights, workers’ rights and social justice
  • Strong communication skills – both public speaking and relationship building
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer literate, experience with databases
  • Dedication and ability to work on a flexible schedule, including some weekends, and some nights
  • Ability to collaborate and work cooperatively
  • Ability to be self-directed and work independently
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to manage long-term, complex projects
