Over the past year, politicians have sought to strip workers of collective bargaining powers, infringing on the basic rights of workers everywhere. This comes on top of a recession that has left many jobless and struggling to make ends meet. Here in Oregon, workers still face dismal economic conditions and an unemployment rate of over 10%, not including workers who have fallen off the unemployment roster or who have been forced to work part-time. Day laborers and immigrant workers bear the brunt of these conditions as they are simultaneously exploited for cheap labor and continue to pay the costs of America’s broken immigration system. This International Workers’ Day, show your solidarity with the working class as we raise our collective voice and demand economic and social justice for ALL workers!
The Portland May Day Coalition is made up of grassroots community organizations, labor unions, faith communities, and individuals. Organizers aim to mobilize the community in order to stop the exploitation of immigrant workers and put an end to ICE aggression.
