Reflexiones sobre El Centro de trabajo.
Es una vendición tener el Centro de trabajo, porque nos da la oportunidad a muchos de ganarnos la vida dignamente. Este Centro, por lo demás, aparte de servir de conecte entre empleadores y empleados, es una especie de recinto de ayuda donde se difunden y se practican los principios de ayuda mutua y de respeto mutuo. Merece el apoyo de toda la comunidad. Merece el apoyo de todas y de todos.
Aquí en el Centro de trabajo, sobre todo, no tienes que mostrar pruevas de tu identidad o de tu status social, como tampoco de tus cualificaciones o de tus destrezas. Basta con que afirmes lo que dices. Cuando todo se hace conforme a la ley y a las reglas, nosotros los trabajadores, cualificados o no cualificados, siempre salimos perdiendo, porque las leyes y las reglas que legitimizan el status quo están al servicio de las clases dominantes y de las empresas capitalistas. Siempre lo han estado y siempre lo van a estar. La situación se hace muy difícil algunas veces para algunos de nosotros por no poder competir con los que nacieron aquí, por no poder hablar y escribir bien el idioma y por no tener los conocimientos culturales necesarios para desenvolvernos con eficacia en este medio.
La existencia y el mantenimiento del Centro no se logró, ni se logra, con vanas palabras, como las que profieren los sacerdotes en las misas y los políticos demagogos en sus campañas políticas. Se logra con acciones, con las acciones de jóvenes líderes (aquí permítame que me quite el sombrero ante los dirigentes de la organización VOZ) que luchan y se preocupan por mejorar la situación de quienes de otra manera no sabrían exigir respeto a su dignidad de mujeres y de hombres. Se necesita gente así, gente capaz de actuar, a fin de cambiar y mejorar nuestra realidad social.
Reflections on the Worker’s Center
It is a blessing having the Worker’s Center, because it gives many of us the opportunity to earn a living with dignity. This Center, moreover, aside from serving as a connection between employers and employees, is a kind of help space where the principles of mutual help and mutual respect are shared and practiced. It deserves the support of the entire community. It deserves the support of everyone.
Here in the Worker’s Center, above all, you do not have to show proof of your identity or of your social status, or of your qualifications or skills. It is enough that you assure everyone that what you say is true. When everything is done according to law and following the rules, we the workers, qualified or not qualified, always end up losing, because the laws and the rules that legitimize the status quo are at the service of the dominant classes and the capitalist businesses. They have always been this way and will always be this way. Sometimes the situation is made very difficult for some of us because we are unable to compete with people who were born here, because we are unable to speak well or write well in the language, and because we do not have the cultural knowledge necessary to work effectively in this environment.
The existence and the maintenance of the Center was not obtained, and cannot be obtained, with empty words like those that the priests utter in mass and that incendiary politicians use in their political campaigns. It is obtained through actions, with the actions of young leaders (here let me tip my hat to the leaders of the VOZ organization) that fight and concern themselves with improving the situation of those who would otherwise not know to demand the respect of the dignity of women and of men. You need people like this, people that are capable of acting with the end of changing our social reality and making it better.
