Mission of Voz

VOZ Workers’ Rights Education Project (“Voz”) is a worker-led organization that empowers diverse day laborers and immigrants to improve their working condition and protecting civil rights through leadership development, organizing, education and economic opportunity. Voz operates the MLK Workers’ Center where day laborers are connected with employers in a safe environment.

Description

The position will remain open until filled, but interviews for qualified candidates will begin Feb 25, 2020.

Voz’s financial system uses Quickbooks Online, and Microsoft Excel spreadsheet programs to track all financial data. .

Responsibilities

The VOZ part-time Bookkeeper is responsible for:
  • Preparing accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Assisting with HR functions such as staff onboarding, insurance, and accounts.
  • Inputting donations, expenses, produce checks, and other journal entries weekly.
  • Bi-weekly gross payroll and quarterly taxes with Quickbooks.
  • Bank deposits.
  • Maintaining records of invoices, grant award letters, other financial data, and organizational archives catalog.
  • Working with the Accounting Consultant monthly to review data input details, review bank, payroll, credit card, and fund development reconciliations.
  • Serve as the main point of contact with the auditor(s) intern & external and CPA for preparing the 990 and CT-12 Annual Reports.
  • Produce draft financial reports to the finance committee, program directors and board treasurer as needed.
  • Serve on the annual budget committee to help draft annual budget and aid with annual mid-year budget adjustments.
  • Conduct an annual inventory of physical assets.
  • Assist with Annual Dinner preparations and post-event financial reporting.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, quarterly budget work sessions, and an annual retreat.
  • Assist in preparations for capital campaigns planning and management as they arise.

Qualifications

  • Significant ability with numbers and attention to detail. Background in Accounting.
  • 3 years of bookkeeping/accounting experience.
  • Experience with Quickbooks.
  • Experience with computers, email, and web applications.
  • Collegial office teamwork perspective and willingness to pitch in.
  • Positive character references.
  • Support for the causes of immigrant rights and day laborer rights, and other social justice causes.
  • Must be available to come into the Voz office weekly to perform job functions: outside. bookkeeping services that do not work at client offices will not be considered.
  • Spanish-speaking skills plus.

Compensation

COMPENSATION: $21.63/hour and 32 hours a week.

BENEFITS: Union represented position. 100% Health/Dental Coverage, 3 weeks paid vacation (starting), 60 hours of sick time per year, and 6 weeks paid family leave.
