Building Climate Resilience, One Leader at a Time

Day laborers are among the communities most impacted by climate change and environmental challenges. From extreme heat and wildfire smoke to flooding and earthquakes, they face these risks head-on, often without resources or safety nets. For the day laborer community—who frequently work outdoors and in high-risk environments—emergency preparedness is not just important; it’s essential for survival and resilience.

This December, we proudly celebrated the graduation of 10 day laborers from our Emergency Preparedness Cohort. Over several months, participants gained critical skills in climate resilience, earthquake preparedness, mental health first aid, and more. These graduates are now better equipped to protect themselves, their families, and their communities during emergencies—and to share their knowledge with others.

Graciela, one of our incredible graduates, reflected on the program:

"We’ve enriched our knowledge through shared experiences with members from different nationalities and cultures, preparing us to face natural disasters. It’s so important to know what to do before, during, and after a disaster, to use our resources wisely, and to stay calm. Together, we can protect the environment and prevent disasters linked to climate change. Voz and day laborers are here to help ensure we’re all as prepared as possible. Porque juntos somos más, y solo el pueblo salva el pueblo."
