We are thrilled to invite you to our 24th annual celebration, "Las Voces del Trabajador," on Saturday, September 14th at the Voz Worker Center. This special evening will celebrate the resilience and strength of day laborers and domestic workers, featuring reflections on our history, achievements, current progress, and future plans. Our goal is to raise $25,000 to continue building worker power, stability, and transparency.
We have much to share and celebrate. Voz started with workers coming together, and we maintain this spirit by implementing policies and practices that emphasize equitable inclusivity, in collaboration with our peer-led Day Laborer Committee. Our programs support workers in their pursuit of safe and dignified work, offering an average wage of $22.32/hr, teaching job site safety protocols and legal protections, and providing leadership and skill-based classes.
A few highlights:
Our workers have dedicated their time, tools, and efforts to transform our new Worker Center into a vibrant hub of community empowerment and support, showcasing their leadership and commitment.
We have launched a pilot workforce development program in irrigation and landscaping, accredited by Portland Community College, marking a significant step toward new opportunities and collaborations.
We have become a multilingual organization, serving day laborers who speak 12 different languages. Our orientations host 15-20 new day laborers and domestic workers each session, striving for inclusivity and access without turning anyone away despite limited capacity.
We could not have reached this point without the support of our partners and community. Together, we can amplify "Las Voces del Trabajador" and create positive change in our community.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to the rights of immigrants and workers. For sponsorship details or more information about our organization, please contact us at karla@portlandvoz.org. We look forward to partnering with you.
