Founded in 2000, Voz leaders helped establish the National Day Laborers Organizing Network and the organization has a long and storied history as the only worker center in Oregon. Voz continues to be a worker-led organization that empowers diverse day laborers including domestic workers and immigrants to improve their working conditions and protect civil rights through leadership development, organizing, education and economic opportunity.
Under Voz's leadership, executive director Karla Castaneda, staff leader Annica Maxfield, a newly-elected Day Laborer Committee, Voz members and the current Board of Directors are working together on a new strategic plan to lift up the dreams and ambitions of the tiny but mighty worker center and its community. We moved into a new location on NE Broadway in 2023 and have already welcomed and supported many new members and partners who want to help ensure racial justice and economic opportunity for our community
