Bero

Day Laborer

Meet Bero, a Voz worker originally from Chad, Central Africa. After arriving in the U.S. last year, he began his journey in New York before moving to Portland in April. In May, Bero was introduced to Voz, and since then, it has become his new home.

In Chad, Bero worked at the Embassy, and he speaks French, Arabic, and English. Through Voz, he has taken on various jobs, including moving furniture, gardening, digging, painting, and pressure washing.

Being able to work through Voz has been a huge relief for Bero as he navigates the process of seeking asylum. The jobs he has received through Voz have allowed him to take care of himself during this challenging time.

Bero has also participated in different programs at Voz. In fact, back in June, he served as the interpreter during the first training in the history of our organization specifically for French speakers!

Looking to the future, Bero dreams of pursuing home care and nursing training. His goal is to work, save money, and study to build a better future.
